Voyce is a mobile app created during the Women in Tech Hackathon at the University of Melbourne, responding to the theme “Break Silence.”
The app provides a safe and inclusive platform, primarily for women but open to all genders, where users can share personal experiences, connect with others, and seek support anonymously.
In a short 2-day sprint, we designed a calm, community-driven space that encourages users to speak up about difficult issues without fear of judgment.
Given the short 2-day timeframe of the hackathon, we focused on delivering a minimum viable product that addressed the core needs:
Anonymous sharing: Users can post and read experiences safely.
Community engagement: Users can connect, comment, and support one another.
Resource access: Safety tips, guidance, and support resources.
Mobile-first interface: Optimised for real-time, on-the-go use.
This clear scope allowed us to prioritise essential features and ensure the app delivered value within the sprint timeframe.
While there are safety and community apps, users often face:
Lack of privacy and secure spaces for sensitive experiences.
Difficult navigation and unintuitive interfaces.
Limited opportunities to safely connect with peers.
RESEARCH + IDEATION
Key needs identified:
Safety: Users must feel secure when sharing experiences.
Community Support: Easy, moderated ways to connect.
Mobile Accessibility: Smooth mobile-first experience for on-the-go interactions.
DESIGN
Calm, welcoming interface to reduce anxiety and foster trust.
Simplified flows for sharing, connecting, and accessing resources.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
Through ideation and prototyping, the app allows users to:
Share experiences anonymously or with the community.
Access safety tips, resources, and guidance.
Navigate the interface intuitively in a distraction-free environment.
Voyce is a mobile platform designed primarily for women, though open to all genders, that fosters anonymous connection, conversation, and support. The app provides a safe space to share experiences, access resources, and connect with others who can relate, breaking the silence around taboo or isolating topics.
Rapid prototyping in a hackathon context helps quickly validate ideas and focus on core functionality
Mobile-first thinking is essential for apps supporting real-time, on-the-go interactions.
